In a typical American meal, the plate contains a portion of protein, a starch and possibly a vegetable. By contrast, in Mediterranean-style meals, the protein is mixed with the grains, vegetables with the protein, and grains with the vegetables. In this way, delicious combinations are made. Mediterranean-style cooking is a very effective way for encouraging family members to eat vegetables and whole grains.
